Recent news from the Government of Canada and the Government of New Brunswick brings positive support for workers and businesses impacted by U.S. tariffs.

This initiative comes at a time when many organizations are facing uncertainty, financial pressure, and operational challenges.

For many businesses in the forestry sector, the impacts have been significant:

  • Increased operating costs,

  • Reduced revenues,

  • Loss or slowdown of contracts,

  • Concerns about job stability and limited ability to invest in workforce development.

In this context, this new initiative represents a valuable opportunity for businesses and workers to strengthen their skills while reducing the financial burden associated with training.

According to the official government announcement, funding will be available to support training and workforce development for workers affected by tariffs, with the goal of strengthening workforce resilience and helping businesses adapt to ongoing economic challenges.

For the New Brunswick Forest Safety Association, this initiative is especially important because many of our forestry safety and workplace health and safety training programs may qualify under this funding opportunity.

This means businesses may be able to:

  • Train employees at a lower cost.

  • Improve workplace health and safety practices.

  • Strengthen workforce skills,

  • Support onboarding for new employees, and invest in long-term resilience despite current economic pressures.

During periods of change and uncertainty, training becomes more than a requirement—it becomes a strategic tool to protect workers, maintain operations, and prepare for the future.

Our online training platform and accessible learning solutions allow forestry businesses to continue developing their workforce in a flexible and practical way that fits their operational realities.
